About the Bus

JCPS CES STEM Bus

How the Bus Began

The STEM Bus was the brainchild of our director, Dr. Sharis Lattimore.   Within a few short weeks a decommissioned school bus was given to CES to create the program.  Students at Southern High School helped remove the seats to accommodate our lesson tables and we were ready to roll out.  In just a few days of planning our staff at CES built robots, developed lessons, learned how to drive a bus and the first visit to a school began at Schaffner Elementary.

Our Mission

The mission of the STEM Bus is to ignite the fire of learning, getting students excited about learning new things using innovative technologies!  Every student will have the opportunity to use technology and access to innovative learning.

Our goal is to demonstrate lessons and technologies that teachers can use in their classrooms and schools.  CES offers additional support through professional development and instructional support throughout the year while connecting teachers with resources and technologies they can add to their school.

What's Happening on the Bus?

The STEM Bus arrives at the school for an onsite field trip.  Students at the schools receive two exciting hands-on lessons with each visit of the bus.  One group of students actually boards the parked bus to do an activity while a second group simultaneously attends a activity within the school's classroom.

Lessons on the bus include coding, digital music, robotics, art, engineering activities, and much more!  Currently our lessons are tailored for elementary and middle school level students.
